Ski Resort Reviews
Ski Resort Reviews:
In this section of the website , I would like to build up some real reviews of a variety of resorts from all over the world. No commercial reviewing, just a straight forward good bits and bad bits from the customers. These ultra brief reviews are simply a starter to get the process going! If the response is good, I can make a start on building this up into a completely unbiased review resource for skiers. Doesn’t matter if you are a gnarly dude off the MSP paratroopers division or a nervous first time family guy trying to get some inspiration, give us your input.
Getting away to a new ski resort is probably one of the best vacation experiences you can ever have during winter time. Quite apart from the skiing, in a fresh place there is a whole new atmosphere to take in and there are all the other fun things you can do, such as ice skating, snow boarding and mountain trekking. Ski resorts are a great place to get cozy after the wind, sun and snow: and have fun with your friends and family. There are so many ski resorts located across so many different continents and mountain ranges that people can go to relax and enjoy.
Here are some ski resort mini reviews of some big names just to help you think about the best ski resort to spend your next winter break.
Chamonix, France
I first arrived in Chamonix as a scruffy destitute climbing student. I pretty much fell in love with the place that first time despite living on a diet of the first release of textured vegetable protein… yeeeuuck! Never mind it was cheap. And the French girls who took us under their wing were more than compensation for the “hardships” of a summer holiday. So many stories from that trip – most of which will only be told over a beer! “What’s that got to do with skiing?” I hear you ask! Well inevitably, I finally had enough cash to come back skiing – it was only a lightning visit, to do the Vallee Blanche. Now this is a ski descent to dream for. It has the potential to be a bit gnarly with its glacial terrain and high altitude start and generally speaking it is worth taking a guide. They tend to know a bit about those nasty holes called crevasses and how to pull you out if you are unlucky enough to get caught by one and survive the initial fall. There is so much more to Cham than the VB! Whether it’s the pokey off piste of the Grands Montets, or the steeps of the Aiguille Rouge side of the valley; there is absolutely stacks of challenge. You couldn’t really call Chamonix a beginner’s resort, but once you’ve got your initial ski wobbles under control and you’ve got a bit of mileage on the easier off piste terrains elsewhere, then Cham is a fabulous place to extend your comfort zone.
Aspen, Colorado
If you fancy a ski trip to the USA, Aspen in Colorado has some of the most beautiful and breathtaking ski areas you can find. This is an incredibly popular ski resort frequented by the rich and the famous: so it aint cheap! If you want a glimpse of high society, this is the place to go. There are numerous ski resorts to go located in this area providing a huge range of great terrain and slopes for different skier’s levels. You can find different steeps and bumps across four different mountains that are perfectly groomed for your skiing pleasures. Hyatt Grand Hotel is one of the most popular hotel complexes to stay in here. The units are very spacious; allowing a full dose of peace and relaxation for people after a day thrashing the slopes and their legs. The hotel staff are frequently commended for keeping and retaining the first class service this hotel is known for. But, you’d hope so wouldn’t you: the downside, staying here alongside the rich and famous is that it is very expensive: the rates are not something ordinary people like most of us ordinary mortals can afford. However a bit of diligent research can turn up places like the Annabelle Inn on West Main Street where you won’t exactly get student prices, but the charges won’t need a film star salary! Get in early though because the bargain hunters are busy.
Cortina, Italy
If Europe is the place you prefer for your ski trip, then Cortina in the Italian Dolomites provides some of the most beautiful ski resorts in the entire continent. Skiing down these slopes beneath the fabulous towers of the Dolomites is something that you should not miss and Italy’s to satisfy the adrenaline rush that you are looking for. The streets of Cortina is also traffic-less so you are ensured of the most relaxing, peaceful and quiet vacations you can ever have. Rosa Alpina is one of the most popular resorts people go to as people feel comfort and luxury from this quiet place of Cortina that really enables one to relax to the maximum. They also serve scrumptious authentic Italian cuisine that no one will ever be able to resist. Although many people are sad that they are not open the whole year as this hotel is seasonal to match the snow formations on the Alps. But if winter break is all the vacation you have in a year, seclude yourself in this ski resort and be blown away by the tranquility and beauty of the northern Italian Alps.
Mont-Tremblant, Quebec
From my UK perspective, Canada is a highly under-valued ski destination. The Canucks also have some of the most breathtaking ski resorts you can find anywhere. A country with an abundance of permanent snow on many of its mountains, it is no wonder that people find it one of the best places to go skiing. Mont Tremblant opened one of the first ski resorts in Canada and despite its easterly location and lowly altitude, its closeness to the big cities has ensured its popularity. Despite the relatively limited areas of these eastern resorts, there are so many dotted around the Quebec countryside that if you’ve had enough of one – you can easily nip across to one of Mt Tremblant’s neighbours. But as with other ski resorts that are close to the cities (Ottawa and Montreal in this case), they aren’t budget price! Unlike the previous 3 they are good as a diversion from a bigger trip to Eastern Canada.
These are just some very brief overview reviews for you to consider. Hopefully they’ll get your juices flowing about which resort to visit this winter if you haven’t already decided. Choose any from the ski resort reviews mentioned above and please feel free to add your own reviews to the comments section. Get out there, track some fresh powder and have the most fantastic winter break you’ve ever had.
